High School Teenagers Having Less Sex-- but Still 1 out of 3 Sexually Active A national survey of high school teenagers in the US found that while sexual intercourse overall was decreasing, still nearly 50% of teenagers have had sexual intercourse at least once. Approximately 15% of teenagers have had 4 or more sexual partners and a third of them are currently sexually active (sex within the last 3 months). From 50% to 65% of teenagers used a condom during their last sexual intercourse.
Comment: Overall, the trend over the last decade is towards less intercourse among high school teenagers. However, only 50% of teenage girls used a condom during their last intercourse- a worrisome statistic. Also, more than 1 out of 5 ninth graders are sexually active.
