?> A father frustrated with trying to figure out why his baby was crying has developed a computer chip that translates cries. The developer, Paul Monagas, is an electrical engineer. The translation device tells parents whether the baby's cries are because of being stress, tired, hungry, sleepy, or uncomfortable. [ BBC NEWS | Health | Translating a baby's cries posted at 12:57 PM

High School Teenagers Having Less Sex-- but Still 1 out of 3 Sexually Active

?> A national survey of high school teenagers in the US found that while sexual intercourse overall was decreasing, still nearly 50% of teenagers have had sexual intercourse at least once. Approximately 15% of teenagers have had 4 or more sexual partners and a third of them are currently sexually active (sex within the last 3 months). From 50% to 65% of teenagers used a condom during their last sexual intercourse. Comment: Overall, the trend over the last decade is towards less intercourse among high school teenagers. However, only 50% of teenage girls used a condom during their last intercourse- a worrisome statistic. Also, more than 1 out of 5 ninth graders are sexually active. What ever happened to waiting for marriage? [ September 27, 2002 / 51(38);856-859 ] posted at 3:09 PM
